Contrary to what you may have heard or read, financial freedom is NOT about becoming an enterpreneur. It means being in control of your finances, whatever they are, instead of your finances being in control of you.

Our time is showing an uncanny resemblence to the time just before the Dark Ages when one group controlled the finances of the entire world. Every single king, though supposedly sovereign, was in debt up to his ears to the same organization, and foreign/domestic policy decisions were influenced accordingly.

Are we headed towards similar “Dark Ages?” I think so unless enough people at the grassroots (local) level within their communities choose to unite on the issues that really matter and start wielding their economic power through the buying decisions they make every day.

The “Down-Home Revolution” is a real thing. It is the economy of the future in many respects, and possibly the only way for the average American to survive and thrive if the economy DOES go belly up–which it could in short order. The good news is that our fast-declining Industrial Age economy favoring large corporations and mass-production technology is quietly being challenged by a new, fast-growing economy that favors home and locally-based production and uses mass-networking technology readily available through web-based and mobile communications to reach markets anywhere in the world. The “Down-Home Revolution” has already created scores of thriving new cottage industries and home-based businesses, especially in small towns and rural areas, with more springing up every day.

The spiritual and cultural impacts of the “Down-Home Revolution” are also being felt as the movement gains momentum. People seeking a sense of identity and meaning in life increasingly find themselves turning “down-home” for answers, searching out their ancestral and spiritual roots.

Anyone with an ear to the ground can feel the momentum building as the decline in ethics and the increase in world tensions create a climate ripe for change. And the “Down-Home Revolution” may be just the force needed to effect that change.

As each of us seeks our own path to financial freedom is these difficult times, it would be wise to consider a piece of sage advice from The Lord of the Rings. Frodo tells Gandalf that he “wished he had not lived to see such times.” Gandalf replied “So do all that encounter them. All we can do is to decide what to do with the time that is given to us.”

    Great Article, Sharon.
One way we are enjoying financial freedom is SHOPPING local.
Our community needs the Tax base and we actually save money on travel, generate closer ties to our neighbors and find life more simple.
